RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE AMOUNT OF PARITY IN MOTHER AND BREECH PRESENTATION EVENTS IN MOHAMMAD HOESIN HOSPITAL PALEMBANG

Background: Breech presentation is the common malpresentation, with high levels of morbidity and mortality of mother-child, the prevalence of breech presentations in Palembang is 8.38%.
Objective: To identify the general and clinical characteristics of breech presentation and also the relationship between the amount of parity in mother with the incidence of breech presentation in Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang.
Methods: This research uses descriptive analytical method with cross sectional approach. It’s held on 30 September to 1 December 2010.
Results: There were 204 cases of breech presentation and 376 cases of other presentations, the prevalence of aterm breech presentation in Mohammad Hoesin Hospital is 6.4%, the most breech presentation experienced by mothers with the age class 26-30, the most types of breech presentation are mixed breech and frank breech amounted to 92.6%, the most common measure used to help presentation is vaginal delivery (72.1%) with partial extraction in amount of 35.3% of the total, the common weight of babies born with breech presentation is 2500-4000 g, the body length of babies born with breech presentation is less than 48 cm, the infant mortality rate of aterm breech presentation is 3.4%, female sex was the largest of breech birth, the most often disorder that accompanies the breech presentation is premature rupture of membranes 10, 3% (75.5% without disorder), and the last, the number of parity had no significant correlation with the incidence of breech presentation (Chi-Square Test, p=0.484, OR=1,147).
Conclusion: Result from correlation between the parity and breech presentation do not fit the theory likely because few of breech presentation with multiparity are referred to RSMH, considering delivery technique easier, whereas breech presentation with primiparity is always referred. MDGs 2010 report stating the proportion of births by skilled health personnel in South Sumatra, on average, by 78.7%.
