VAGINAL DISCHARGE

Vagina physiologically produce white discharge needed by the body for germ protection, lubrication and also prevent adhesions of both vaginal walls. The presence of pathological microorganism and other genital diseases can cause excessive vaginal discharge and very disturbing. Because of that, every woman should be aware and have enough knowledge to distinguish between the physiological and the pathological vaginal discharge so they can prevent further bad effects.
This study aimed to describe the knowledge, attitude and personal effort of SMA Negeri 5 Jambi students about vaginal discharge.
This study was a descriptive survey that used questionnaire. The study population are students of SMA Negeri 5 Kota Jambi. The sample was taken by systemic random sampling from the population and eighty eight students was obtained as respondents. The data were collected, processed, and presented in the form of descriptive statements and quantified by the percentage that comes with distribution table along with the discussion.
The results showed 85.23% of respondents had experienced vaginal discharge and have basic knowledge to determine whether or not having vaginal discharge. A total of 88.64% of respondents said that not all vaginal discharge is infectious; this vaginal discharge also known as physiological vaginal discharge. They also suggested that infectious vaginal discharge must be prevented and treated. However, the majority of the respondents (76.14%) did not attempt to find further information about vaginal discharge.
